The inspiration came suddenly, powerfully, at the sight of a photograph: the Scorpionfish—an equally fascinating and enigmatic creature—etched itself into my mind as the perfect form to bring to life with the copper pipes I had been saving over time, waiting for the right project.
All I was missing was the base. I found it in my studio, in my very first work surface: the piece of wood on which I created my earliest works, loaded with memory and meaning. I cut it into three parts—a rare gesture for me—to multiply the symbolic presence of that material which marked the beginning of my artistic journey.
As always, I worked using a direct technique, without a preparatory drawing, letting intuition guide me. To the copper, wood, Venetian enamels, stone, and marble, I added the marvelous artistic glass I’ve been using since the beginning of the year, with its transparency and chromatic vibrations.
The Scorpionfish, in its armored and seductive aesthetic, is far more than a simple subject. It is a powerful esoteric symbol: a union of beauty and danger, abundance and defense, hidden strength and transformation. Its venom evokes the ability to protect oneself with resolve, while the fish’s nature recalls fluidity, richness, and the depth of the unconscious.
This creature invites us to explore the most remote areas of our psyche, to accept symbolic death as a necessary passage for rebirth, and to embrace change as a path toward higher awareness. Within it coexist power and grace, shadow and light: a silent message for those who know how to listen.

The mosaic was made using the direct technique on a wooden panel.

Materials: Yellow Italian stone of Nanto, Biancone Italian marble, Travertino Italian marble, mixed Venetian smalti, yellow Venetian gold (24K gold leaf), artistic glass, artistic ceramic, recicled material.
