I created The Phantom Cicada as a reflection on transformation and the silence that remains after the song. I used Venetian yellow antique gold enamels, artistic glass, marble, and white stone on wood: materials that speak of light, time, and memory.

For me, the cicada is a symbol of rebirth and spiritual freedom. It is the soul leaving the body to become sound, the passage from matter to subtle vibration. In this “phantom” version it is no longer just a summer insect, but a light, almost transparent presence, a golden memory that keeps singing even when everything seems silent.

Each of my mosaics is born from an encounter with the wood: cleaned, brushed, restored, and always protected with an anti-woodworm treatment. Its grain, shapes, colors, and traces of time inspire the subject and guide the composition. The wood does not merely host the mosaic; it becomes an essential part of it, dialoguing with the artwork and completing it with its own story.
