The Soffione seems to be linked to the idea of detachment and travel. The seeds of this flower can perfectly represent the phases of the life cycle: Initially the seeds are tied to the pappus, their soft appendage, and do not seem to want to detach from it. Then little by little, they let themselves be carried by the wind, at first fearful but then increasingly fearless, ready to embark on a new journey and experience new adventures. Once the initial fear has been overcome, they let themselves go, curious about new discoveries, ready to generate new life.
This flower thus becomes a perfect metaphor for life: in order to flourish one must detach oneself from one’s origin, preserving its characteristics and treasuring this inheritance, facing one’s journey without fear, ready to fight against the elements and to seize every opportunity.
The mosaic was made using a direct technique on a wooden door.
Materials: Mixed Venetian smalti, white Venetian gold, brass wire.
