Small fish crafted from red Venetian smalti and artistic glass, with delicate fins in Venetian yellow gold and sinuous tails that seem to move through the water.

Their graceful forms evoke the essential beauty of Chinese and Japanese painting and the Eastern tradition of the goldfish as a symbol of good fortune, prosperity, abundance and auspiciousness. Their movement through water also suggests fluidity, harmony, and the ability to follow the natural course of life.
They are composed on a fragment of pearl-grey wood, intentionally marked by time, which once belonged to my first workbench: a material carrying the memory of the beginning, now becoming part of the artwork itself.
A small work in which red, the colour of vitality and good fortune, meets the radiance of gold and the memory held within the material.

Each of my mosaics is born from an encounter with the wood: cleaned, brushed, restored, and always protected with an anti-woodworm treatment. Its grain, shapes, colors, and traces of time inspire the subject and guide the composition. The wood does not merely host the mosaic; it becomes an essential part of it, dialoguing with the artwork and completing it with its own story.

Materials: Mixed Venetian smalti, yellow Venetian gold (24K gold leaf), artistic glass, murrine of Murano.
